28 Week Ultrasound

I had an ultrasound Monday morning. As I've mentioned before, I get monthly ultrasounds due to being a "high risk" pregnancy. I'm probably the lowest of the high risk pregnancies my doctor sees. I'm in good health, I've got loads of space in my 5'11" frame to house these babes. I don't smoke or drink in excess. I don't have any pre-existing conditions that could cause complications. So for me and my doctor it's all just a matter of routine at this point. I see him every two weeks with an ultrasound at every other appointment. As we get toward the end I'll start seeing him weekly, maybe even twice a week. Good thing the office is close to my work.

This ultrasound was much like the rest. The tech measured their arm and leg bones and the circumference of their bellies and heads. She checked out all their organs and zoomed in on their hearts. Their hearts are looking more and more like what you would think a heart would look like from high school anatomy class and less and less like the scary cartoon trees they did when I first saw them.

I heard the whir-whir-whir of their hearts beating - 143 & 146 beats per minute. Healthy, strong heart beats.

The tech told me they are both head down. (This explains the pressure and discomfort as of late). She said they are weighing 2 lbs 12 ounces and 2 lbs 15 ounces. (Wow. They got big fast) All their measurements are proportionate. All good news.

The only unfortunate thing about this ultrasound was that neither one of them were particularly interested in participating in any pictures. The tech couldn't get them to turn at all to get a profile shot. She couldn't even get their little hands and feet because they were both tucked up into tight little balls. They are both head down, spine up, facing my back so she got a few pictures of their bellies that don't really look like much. One of them moved her head slightly and she got this picture. She said "I'm sorry. That's the best I can do!" Not the most attractive picture, but at least she's smiling??

According to my baby tracking app the girls can open and close their eyes now. They can perceive light through my belly and are sensitive to touch. If they start kicking each other like crazy I just rub my belly where they are fighting and they simmer down. Kinda crazy. Pretty cool.

For those of you wondering (but afraid to ask) how I'm doing with all my issues I previously wrote about, I'm much better. My sister suggested I get Vitamin E Oil for the areas of my skin that are the most dry. It is literally saving my skin and my sanity. I love coconut oil, but this stuff is 10x better and more effective and I only have to apply it in the morning and at night. Gone are the days of 4 applications of body butter/coconut oil/cortisone cream per day! Also the cortisone cream and witch hazel pads have helped my other issues immensely. I'm still slow moving and I think I'll only get slower as the babies get bigger, but life is much more manageable when I'm not in pain!
