I picked out bedding over Christmas. Since I can never do things the easy way the bedding I loved ended up being from etsy with a 8-12 week lead time because it's custom. It's of course llama themed. In addition to the long lead time it was also expensive. In an ideal world I would have ordered multiple crib sheets, but we do not live in an ideal world. I ordered two crib sets, one for each crib. The set includes the bed skirt, crib sheet, and a blanket (that's mostly decorative but really pretty). I figured the bed skirt could pretty much stay on the bed all the time and I'd obviously have to wash the crib sheets frequently so I registered for a few different crib sheets that would match the skirt so I always have a few options in rotation.
The skirt is white and turquoise chevron and there are different shades of turquoise, pink, yellow and taupe in the blanket and crib sheet. I could wait 12 weeks for the bedding but I couldn't wait 12 weeks to start getting the nursery together. My dad offered to come paint. The first weekend we both had available was this past weekend. I emailed the etsy lady and asked for the RGB color code for the turquoise because I knew I wanted at least one wall painted turquoise. I like pink as much as the next girl but I didn't want pink to be the predominant color in the nursery since I'll have plenty of pink clothes, stuffed animals, blankets, etc. adding to the space. She sent me the code, I plugged it into a color code translator thing I found online and then I did nothing for 3 weeks.
My parents came down Thursday afternoon. It was a busy week and Alex was in Connecticut for work so I didn't have time for a Home Depot run before Thursday. I went to Home Depot after work and showed the nice gentleman at the paint counter my little color translator thing. As I was standing there I realized that this translator did not spit out the exact code needed to plug into the Home Depot machine to make the perfect paint color. No, that would be too easy. Instead, it gave me 12 options of Behr colors that were closest to the RGB color code I put in. Hmmmm. The paint dude started pulling out swatches for me to look at and none of them looked right. Mind you all I have of the bedding is the picture online. I ended up kind of blindly picking out a turquoise color off the shelf that I liked the most.
I wasn't as concerned about the taupe. I picked a medium dark shade. While the paint was mixing the guy asked when I was due. I said "April". He replied, "and it's a girl?" (He had seen the llama crib sheet picture on my phone - not very masculine.) "Two girls actually." Silence. A few seconds later he chuckled. "Two. Twice the blessing." He was a cool dude.
Got home with the paint in tow. Mom had dinner ready (seriously, come visit any time). We ate. Dad taped off the room while we decided which wall would be turquoise and then he started painting the first coat of turquoise on the wall mom and I decided on while Alex and I went to bed. (Alex got home Thursday and was beat and well, I'm pregnant, so I'm allowed to go to bed at 9 o'clock if I want to). Friday morning I woke up and walked into the nursery. The color was BEAUTIFUL. It's the prettiest turquoise I've ever seen. I don't even care if it doesn't perfectly match the bedding.
When I got home from work Friday dinner was waiting again and the paint was dry. Cribs were ready to be assembled. The coverage was so good Dad only had to do one coat of each color. Alex and Dad built the cribs. I sort of helped from my rocking recliner chair. By 9 PM everything was in it's place. It's perfect.
I don't have any decor, or a table skirt or curtains or my dresser/changing table but those things will all come in the next couple of months as I decide what I really want it to look like (I would say 'we' but Alex is 100% indifferent).
My parents stayed through Sunday afternoon. Saturday was spent cleaning. Mom and I took Christmas down and put regular decor back up. She cleaned all the blinds and curtains and pulled out furniture to vacuum behind it. It's amazing how gross your house is when you don't deep clean on a regular basis. I knew it was bad and quite frankly I was a little ashamed of the state of my house, but my mom loves me and she loves helping me. I swear cleaning is one of her love languages. I feel 100% better knowing my environment is cleaner and the nursery is well on it's way. She'll be back in March to do some more detailed cleaning. By then I suppose the nursery will be mostly done and I'll be packing my go-bag just in case I can't make it until tax day for a scheduled c-section.

Yay Debbie! I'm so glad your folks are so supportive. The room looks amazing. I predict you will spend much time in that comfy recliner.
ReplyDeleteMy parents are the BEST! I can't say it enough.
ReplyDeleteThank you! <3 I'm sure I'll be spending lots of time in that recliner and it certainly is comfy!
