Top Ten Things I'm Thankful For:

Ok, so I'm still a little bitter about losing the long post I wrote this morning. So instead of rewriting that post I'll write on an entirely different topic. Even though I am in Peru and they do not celebrate Thanksgiving it is still the 4th Thursday of November; it is still Thanksgiving. So here you have the 10 things I am most thankful for that I've come to realize because of my time in Peru.

1. Jesus' love for me in the good, bad, funny, and sad times.

2. Family and friends - Peruvian and American. I've been so blessed with my host family here. They make me laugh, help me when I'm frustrated, and have patience like I have never seen to explain things to me over and over and over when my blonde moments strike. I've also made so many friends through choir. I will miss them greatly! And to my loves back home - thank you all for the constant love and support. I could not have done this semester without the help of my family and friends in the states.

3. EspaƱol - we have a love/hate relationship but I am glad I've been able to learn more of the language and feel like I can function on my own without my native language. How cool is that?

4. My education (pre-peru). The education system is very different here and after just one semester I realize how fortune I was to have the education I did growing up. Can't wait to finish out my college career at Calvin College in the spring!

5. Music! This is a big one. I am so thankful for my classical training that enabled me to teach this semester. My students soaked up every word I said and demonstration was the best tool. They sound 100 times better than the first time I heard them. My love of music is on fire right now, for all the right reasons :)

6. New experiences and memories. This entire trip has been new experience after new experience after new experience. I've learned so much about the world and about myself through all my experiences here and am walking away with lessons I will never forget.

7. Love and Laughter. People love so easily here. They have shown me what it means to love each other and this gorgeous world God has created for us. There has been so much laughter on this trip. Every time I think back over the memories I can't help but laugh. I hope my life never lacks laughter.

8. Nature. Peru is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL country. I am so thankful to have a creative God. I am surrounded by volcanoes and rivers and incredible scenery everywhere I go.

9. Ice cold beverages. This is not a joke. They don't believe in ice in this country and I miss it. immensely.

10. Freedom. Freedom to be my own person, to learn about other persons, to experience culture in ways I never thought possible, and to get a llama tattoo.

So now that my very being is overflowing with joy and thanksgiving I am going to joyously read a book for lit and write a report on it for tomorrow... Then I'm going to eat turkey like every good American should.
